I’m going to write this article from the perspective of your ex-boyfriend. I was once the ex-boyfriend who was doing all of The blocking and unblocking. So I have a really valid and personal insight into exactly what your ex-boyfriend might be thinking.
Blocking and unblocking indicates losing you is really hard.
Listen, he is going through it! To block and unblock somebody and run the risk of them noticing is proof that he has so many emotions about you still!
My ex even called me out for it one time! It was horrifying. He said, Andrei, I know that you keep locking me and I’m blocking me. He said that he sees me continually appear in the people you may know section on Facebook only to disappear.
Honestly, I was a bit embarrassed and mortified when he told me that. I was like so my ex knows that I have no consistency in my emotions about him. Great! That was the last thing I wanted. Was to be the crazy ex-boyfriend who he’s blocking and unblocking my ex on social media. But maybe it’s just so that I could write about it and spare you the headache I went through about 10 years ago!
Can you be the one to friend request him?
If he can’t make up his mind, maybe you can show him a little bit of compassion by sending your ex-boyfriend a friend request. He is obviously watching your social media and you are obviously interested enough to Google this article. And so, why don’t you two just reach out to each other and get the conversation started?
What is your ex-boyfriend trying to accomplish by blocking and unblocking you?
Why would your ex-boyfriend be doing this? Try putting yourself in his shoes for a moment. When I was doing this behavior, it was because I was trying to heal myself.
By blocking and unblocking my ex, I felt I regained control of the emotional turmoil the breakup was causing me. Now, I wasn’t trying to control my ex. But I was trying to get control over my emotions because they were all over the place. And sometimes deleting somebody online can actually feel really powerful in our real life.
Did a friend ever unexpectedly delete you on social media?
If you were ever deleted by a friend unexpectedly on social media, you probably know that this online life has real-world consequences. Next time you see this person. You are probably going to think about the fact that you’ve been removed on social media! So, when it’s your ex doing this behavior it’s probably to create some sort of a real-world reaction based on online activities.
Is your ex-boyfriend trying to get your attention with blocking and unblocking?
When I was doing this, it wasn’t for attention. It was because I was hurting. But some people might be a bit more manipulative than I am. Perhaps your ex-boyfriend is blocking you and unblocking you to try and get your attention. And to be fair, it sounds like it has worked.
